Historic Red Brick Courthouse, 2nd floor, 29 Courthouse Square, Rockville

Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett will join the County’s Chief Innovation Officer (CInO) Dan Hoffman to announce the opening of the “Thingstitute,” a living laboratory for Internet of Things (IoT) technology providing an unparalleled test-bed for start-ups, established companies, and research institutions. The cornerstone project in the Thingstitute is the Safe Community Alert (SCALE) Network. SCALE seeks to test and build the County’s capacity to deliver IoT technologies to vulnerable populations.

IoT devices include such things as fire hydrants, smoke detectors, and medical devices that traditionally were not connected to the Internet. The Courthouse will be a staging area for about 15 companies and the CInO’s program as the County deploys new sensor technology to the Victory Court senior living facility in Rockville.

The County Executive and the CInO will be joined by senior executives from Intel, Victory Housing, IBM, Brivo Labs, AT&T, and the National Institutes of Standards and Technology.
